Located just off of Broadway, in the heart of Saratoga Springs, NY, lies Esperanto. While I’ve been there on a few occasions completely sober, most of my Esperanto indulgences have occurred in the early hours of the a.m. after a drink, or two, or…
Anyway, Caroline St. is where Esperanto can be found. Caroline St. is the bar street in Saratoga and Esperanto is conveniently nestled amongst it all, with bars in all directions. Entering Esperanto (for those who may have been before and not in a while, they have ditched the hole-in-the-wall joint for a newer, classier version…same food!) will lead you to a well-traveled menu of chimichangas, chicken curry, and falafel, to name a few things. But, if you go to Esperanto, especially on a drunken binge, you really are left with one choice (well two, sorta).
The Dough Boy. Or, for my vegetarian comrades, the Dough Girl. At first look, and even upon biting into it, the Dough Boy looks less than desirable. Remember, this is all about drunken pleasure. However, the cheesy goodness of these Dough creations will keep you satisfied. The Dough Boy consists of “sauteed chicken breast diced & spiced, blended with cheeses and scallions and baked in a fresh pizza dough until golden brown.” The Dough Girl is similar, minus the chicken, plus some veggies.
I’ve heard comments that the sober flavor of Esperanto isn’t good, but I have to politely disagree. And for a mere $3.50, you can go try a Dough Boy/Girl, all for yourself.
Don’t forget the hot sauce.
